Consistency ≠ Perfection

Repeat that again...

Consistency ≠ Perfection

And one more time for the people in the back…

Consistency ≠ Perfection

Got it? Good!

The balance between consistency and perfection can be one of the hardest things to navigate—especially when we’re so used to setting the bar impossibly high. I’ll admit, I’m still learning this lesson myself, and it’s been a journey of trial, error, and a lot of self-compassion. Perfection is impossible! So why do we hold ourselves to standards we’ll never reach?

Once I stopped seeing every “missed” day or “not-quite-perfect” outcome as a failure, I began to see how much progress I was actually making! Each little step builds on the last, even if it doesn’t look exactly how we imagined. Now, I’m all about embracing imperfect progress—because it turns out, that’s where the real growth happens.

Perfection Is a Trap (And Why It’s Okay to Let It Go)

Perfection tells us to wait for the perfect conditions or for that “ideal” version of ourselves to emerge before we can feel worthy or successful. But that just keeps us stuck!

Letting go of perfection doesn’t mean lowering our standards; it means setting ourselves up for sustainable success. Showing up imperfectly, but consistently builds a foundation that lasts, because it’s rooted in reality, not in an ideal that doesn’t exist.

Tips for Embracing Consistency over Perfection

Here are a few practices that have helped me focus on consistency, not perfection:

1. Celebrate the Small Wins

It’s so easy to overlook the small wins, but they’re the building blocks of progress! Notice and celebrate every step, no matter how small. Each one is a reminder that you’re moving forward.

2. Set Realistic, Manageable Goals

If your goal feels too overwhelming, break it down. For example, instead of committing to a full 60-minute workout every day, try 10 minutes. When we set realistic goals, it’s easier to stay consistent, and each success motivates us to keep going.

3. Be Kind to Yourself on Off Days

Consistency doesn’t mean being “on” every single day. We all have days when things don’t go as planned. The key is to respond with kindness. Take a break when you need to, and then come back to your practice without any guilt or shame.

4. Trust the Process

Results don’t come overnight, and that’s okay. Trust that each small step is part of a bigger picture. You may not see changes immediately, but over time, those little steps add up in a powerful way.

5. Redefine Success as Progress, Not Perfection

Success isn’t about getting everything right; it’s about growth. Let’s redefine what “success” looks like for us personally and embrace progress—even if it’s messy, imperfect, or slower than we expected.

Cheers to the journey and all the ways we get there—one step, one day, and one imperfect moment at a time!
